Literature Text

From the moment she was born, I was one of the first to glimpse her
To capture that rare moment, and commit it to memory.

Even her parents, who loved her as no one else can,
Fail in comparison to the crisp recollection I have of that day.

Throughout her younger years, I stood constant vigil
Waiting in earnest for each and every meaningful moment to grab.

As the years went by, she grew beautifully into a young woman.
I have the proof of this, the memory of her first prom.

Her date, awkward and shy, stood next to an absolute goddess of silken white.
I was present at all birthdays, especially hers,

From days of trikes and bikes to presents full of makeup and clothes.
At her graduation, a single tear could be seen running down my side;

Not mine of course, but her fathers, whose shaking hands could barely hold me.
Then, that magical moment afterwards, where I was placed her hands permanently

As a present for succeeded so much in life.
From that day on, we went everywhere together:

Cities, mountains, deserts, forests, and plains we saw together.
Such beauty, and both of us committing it to memory.

Now, as we both age in quiet and calm, she blows bits of dust off of me and my memories.
We both aren't what we use to be; but we always have these pictures of when we were.
